OUTPATIENT CODER TRAINEE

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

1. The importance of accurate, complete and consistent coding practices for the production of quality healthcare data.
2.  Using skills, knowledge of the current mandated coding and classifications systems, and official resources to select the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes (i.e. ICD-9-CM, CPT-4 and HCPCS) for inpatient and outpatient settings.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires being enrolled in an AHIMA-accredited school, nearing completion of a hospital facility coding course.  Pass internal Coding Department competency exam.  Pass the CCA exam upon completion of coding course (first available AHIMA testing date).

Knowledge of:  Medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, and disease processes.  ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 classification systems.  APC assignment.  Coding Clinic guidelines.  CPT Assistant guidelines.

    Code outpatient accounts (using ICD-9 Diagnosis and Procedure Codes and CPT codes):
         Ancillary Departments:
              Outpatient Radiology
              Outpatient Rehab
               Infusion
               OB Outpatient Visit
          ED
          Surgery Center
          Ambulatory Surgery
